The Marriage License on-line application process is provided as a convenience for Internet users. We do not provide technical assistance in the use of the Internet. If you experience problems in completing the application and/or DO NOT receive a confirmation number you must come into the Wake County Register of Deeds Office to file and obtain your Marriage License. If you successfully completed your application and RECEIVE A CONFIRMATION NUMBER you must still come into our office to obtain your marriage license.

When you have COMPLETED your on-line application and receive your confirmation number, in order to obtain your marriage license, both parties will have to go to the Wake County Register of Deeds Office, Wake County Justice Center, 300 South Salisbury Street, Suite 1700, Raleigh, NC 27601.

Marriage Licenses may be obtained from 8:30am to 4:45pm, Monday through Friday. Call (919) 856-5460 for marriage requirements and other information.

Please Note: Your Internet Online Application will only be kept on file 30 business days from the date submitted to the the Register of Deeds Office.

Proof of Age and Identity

***Note: Both proof of a Social Security number and ID must be presented at time of application****

  • Applicants 21 years of age or above may use one (1) of the following forms of identification:
  • Driver's License (may not be expired), or -State-issued I.D. Card (may not be expired), or
  • Passport (may not be expired), or
  • Military I.D. (may not be expired), or
  • Certified copy of birth certificate
  • Applicants 20 years of age or younger must have a certified copy of their birth certificate.
