The appraised value of your property represents the fair market value as of the most recent Real Estate Revaluation, which was effective January 1, 2024 . Wake County currently performs a Real Estate Revaluation every four years, as required by law. Market value is defined as the price, estimated in terms of money, at which the property would change hands between a willing and financially able buyer and a willing seller, neither being under any compulsion to buy or sell, and both having reasonable knowledge of all the uses to which the property is adapted and for which it is capable of being used.

The deadline to file an appeal to the Board of Equalization for tax year 2024 is May 15, 2024. If you have received a Notice of Assessed Value dated after May 15, 2024, you may contact the Wake County Department of Tax Administration for information on how to appeal the value. If you have received a decision letter for a Board of Equalization appeal and wish to file an appeal to the North Carolina Property Tax Commission, please follow the instructions contained in the letter. For all other property owners, the next window to appeal your value will open Jan 1, 2025.
